Where should you paddle in North Florida? Northeast Florida is a Stand Up Paddlers dream. From flat water to waves, and everything in between, we are literally surrounded by water. From Daytona Beach to Ormond and Flagler, St. Augustine, Ponte Vedra and Jacksonville, to Fernandina Beach, gorgeous beaches line the Atlantic Ocean with the Intracoastal Waterway to the west. Further inland, the St. Johns River also offers almost unlimited paddling opportunities from Deland all the way to Mayport. Inland central north Florida also offers some insane flat water touring opportunities down slow flowing rivers lined with crystal clear natural springs.
Whether you enjoy flat water touring, SUP racing, or stand up paddle surfing, there are many opportunites to practice SUP around here. Outside of the surf zone, maritime law now considers stand up paddle boards to be a vessel, and you are required to have a Coast Guard certified life vest and whistle on board, as well as a light at night for signaling boaters. There are currently no such requirements for SUP surfing, but a leash is always a good idea.
Below is a map of some ideas of where to launch your SUP from. If SUP surfing is what you’re after you are welcome to surf anywhere along the ocean. Just please respect the lineup and share the stoke!
